Easily make your own soap. Add a few drops of essential oils for a lovely scent. I'd be happy to explain how you can make them yourself. Fun for yourself, but certainly also as an original gift!

MATERIALS

PREPARATION
  1. Cut the melt and pour soap into smaller pieces of about 2 x 2 cm with a clean knife and place the pieces in a heat-resistant bowl.
  2. Melt the melt and pour soap. This can be done in two ways:
    A. In a double boiler over a pan of warm (boiling) water.
    B. In the microwave, turn on the microwave in intervals of 30 seconds until the melt and pour soap has melted.
  3. If you want to give your soap an extra sparkle and/or color, add some mica now. Note that this can transfer to your hands later.
  4. Make sure the melt and pour soap has cooled to about 35°C and add your essential oil.
  5. Stir well and pour the soap mixture into the mold.
  6. 💡 TIP: Tap the mold to bring any air bubbles to the surface and spray alcohol over the surface to make the last air bubbles disappear.
  7. Let the soap harden for about 24 hours before removing it from the mold.

CHOOSING ESSENTIAL OIL

You can use various essential oils for making soap. Make sure that they can be safely applied to the skin. If you have very sensitive skin, first test the essential oil (diluted with some carrier oil) on a small patch of your skin and check your reaction.

Examples of essential oils you can use for soap are:

  • Bergamot
  • Cedarwood
  • Eucalyptus
  • Geranium
  • Grapefruit
  • Lavender
  • Lemongrass
  • Orange
  • Patchouli
  • Petitgrain
  • Rosemary
  • Tea Tree

Some blend suggestions:

  • Bergamot and Patchouli
  • Eucalyptus and Rosemary
  • Lavender and Lemongrass
  • Lavender and Petitgrain
  • Lavender and Rosemary

Add a maximum of 3% essential oil to your soap mixture; for 100 ml of melt and pour soap, this means a maximum of 3 ml of essential oil (approx. 60 drops).

TIPS & TRICKS

💡 TIP: Combine white and transparent soap base for an extra effect in your final soap bar. Or go for different colors and give them a 'swirl' with a stick.

💡 TIP: If you want to make a more natural soap, use ingredients like poppy seeds (scrub effect) and oatmeal (skin care) and mix them into your soap mixture. For natural colorants, you can choose clay powders, for example.

💡 TIP: Give your soap an extra nourishing effect by adding dried flower petals. For example, consider dried calendula for extra skin care.

*PLEASE NOTE:
- Essential oils used in soap are often less strong in scent than the synthetic substances often used in ready-made soap bars.
- Take pets and (small) children into account when choosing your essential oils.
