Autumn is often a time of colds, coughs, and sore throats. To support yourself during this period, a homemade respiratory balm can be very comforting. You can easily make it yourself, using your essential oils!

REQUIREMENTS (for 50 ml)
  • One or more jars or tin containers
  • 35 grams of coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp carrier oil, for example fractionated coconut oil (MCT oil).
  • approx. 23 drops of essential oil of your choice (a dilution of approx. 2%)
  • Bain-marie melting pot

ESSENTIAL OILS

The essential oils you can use to support your respiratory system include:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Rosemary
  • Blends, such as Air by dōTERRA and R.C. by Young Living
To make your balm, you can use one or more of these essential oils. A blend that I personally really like is: 10 drops of Eucalyptus, 5 drops of Lavender, 5 drops of Rosemary, and 3 drops of Lemon.

PREPARATION
  1. Fill a small saucepan with water and bring it to a boil. Then place a melting pot on the pan with boiling water, so that the steam from the boiling water heats it.
  2. Put the coconut oil and carrier oil in the melting pot and let it slowly melt (bain-marie).
  3. Once everything has melted, remove the melting pot from your other pan and let the mixture cool down slightly. 💡 TIP: I usually place the melting pot on a tea towel on the counter.
  4. Wait until the melted mixture has a temperature of about 30°C.
  5. Add the drops of your chosen essential oil(s) and stir until it is well incorporated and forms a nice smooth and even mixture.
  6. Divide your mixture into several small jars and/or tin containers, or opt for a large jar, and let it cool (in the refrigerator).
