If you use essential oils, gemstones can also be a wonderful addition for you. I regularly get asked how you can use gemstones and how to combine them with essential oils. In this blog, I'd like to give you more information and great tips on how to do this.
A gemstone distinguishes itself from ordinary stones by its color, luster, durability (hardness and resistance), and rarity in nature, among other things.
Gemstones are minerals, a simple or composite substance that occurs naturally and is formed by geological processes. The most beautiful gemstones are formed deep within the earth, where magma solidifies and crystals are created. A fun fact is that the presence of chemical substances and metals in the crystals gives them their color. For example, iron causes the purple color in amethyst. The darker the purple color, the higher the iron content. Gemstones are truly natural products that can be millions, even billions, of years old.
When a gemstone consists of a single mineral, we call it a crystal. Amethyst, clear quartz, and rose quartz are examples of crystals. If a gemstone consists of multiple minerals, we call it a rock. These have a coarser structure, such as lapis lazuli.
Although not scientifically proven, gemstones are known for their healing effects on health and vitality. For example, the Greeks and Romans used marble and gemstones to create artworks, Native Americans and shamanic cultures wore gemstone jewelry for protection and/or healing, and powder from certain gemstones was also used as medicine, makeup, and pigment in paint for murals and artworks.
Nowadays, gemstones are often used to help you connect with yourself and nature, calm your body and mind, and heal the heart, among other things.
Personally, I'm very fond of gemstones. The type of stones I like to have around me or carry varies depending on the period, how I feel, and what I need. It's actually the same way you might use essential oils.
There are gemstones that help with grounding, that can help you come back to yourself, gemstones that support cleansing, finding clarity in your mind and body, and gemstones that represent love and warmth, or can offer comfort.
If you also have gemstones, you've probably chosen them for a specific reason or received them with a particular message.
