Bee-utiful wax

Yellow beeswax is the unprocessed wax as made by bees. Initially, the wax is colorless and transparent when it exits the bee's body, but bees add pollen and propolis to it, giving it its beautiful yellow to golden-brown color. The difference from white beeswax is that in yellow beeswax, the color has not been extracted, and the propolis and honey have been preserved.

Just like honey, beeswax has the property of remaining shelf-stable for a long time. It naturally has a purifying effect and therefore helps to support the skin's regenerative capacity.

Beeswax is usually added to creams and lotions for more firmness, as it only melts at higher temperatures (around 65ºC), but because it also works great as a moisturizer, it is a valuable ingredient in itself.

Using beeswax

Beeswax is ideal for use as an ingredient in homemade lip balms and lotions. It makes your product easier to use by making it firmer and thicker.

Beeswax must first be heated and melted before you can use it in care products. Do this using a bain-marie so that the wax does not get too hot. Once the wax is liquid, add the other oils you want in your product and heat everything for a short while (if you add a cold oil to the beeswax, it will solidify immediately, and you won't be able to mix it). Then pour into a glass jar or bottle, let it cool down, and your product is ready to use!
