Soy wax is made from soybeans, a crop that can be sown and harvested repeatedly. Paraffin, on the other hand, is made from petroleum, a fossil fuel that will eventually run out. Soy is also a more environmentally friendly choice when burning, as it does not release toxins into the air. In addition, soy wax is a fantastic vegan alternative to beeswax. Soy wax is used to make candles and is a natural and healthy alternative to paraffin. You can also use it in DIY cosmetics.
Do you recognize this? You light a candle and a black spot remains on your candlestick or ceiling. With soy wax, that's a thing of the past! Soy leaves no black marks or dark smoke.
In fact, soy wax is a wonderful alternative to paraffin, a wax that leaves at least eleven(!) different toxins behind after burning.
Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin, reducing the risk of burns if you get the hot wax on your skin.
When you combine soy wax with your favorite essential oils to make a candle, you'll enjoy the scent much more than with paraffin. This is because soy wax melts at a lower temperature, so the essential oils don't burn off before you smell them. In addition, soy wax melts slower, so the scent of essential oils is slowly released, and your candle will last twice as long!
Is your candle finished but there's some soy left over? No problem! Scrape it off and use it for a new candle, or easily wash it away with some warm water and soap.
Soy wax is suitable for use in cosmetics, such as DIY foot or heel balm or an intensive hand or lip balm. The melting point of Soy Wax is between 58 and 70 degrees. This makes it a somewhat harder wax. For facial cosmetics, soy wax is less suitable as it tends to remain on the skin. Our skin recipes are often based on Beeswax or Myrica Fruit Wax, Berry Wax, or Candelilla Wax or a combination thereof.
Soy wax is used to make candles. To make a 100 ml candle, you can melt 100 grams of soy wax and add 5 to 10 grams of your chosen essential oil for a pleasant scent. For this, you can use these glass jars and these wicks.
You can mix almost all essential oils with soy wax to make a candle. In the recipe above, try replacing the herbs with a few drops of Morning Sunshine Blend for a wonderful morning or Lavender Essential Oil for a deep sleep (remember to extinguish the candle before going to sleep)!
